11/26/10 I explored the Eastern Shore (of MD) with my mom and dad. We had boardwalk fries in Rehoboth and walked the boardwalk in Ocean City. I love the beach in the off season, when one can actually hear the waves. We then drove down to Assateague Island, where this photo was taken. Over a hundred years ago there was a shipwreck off the coast; this ship was carrying ponies, who swam to the island after the wreck. They’ve been inhabiting the island since, and because it is a “National Shoreline” the island is basically made up of sand dunes and wild ponies. I can not express how excited I was to have a baby pony approach me! She liked me and I wanted so badly to bring her home!

I love these…
they should make napkin rings just like these; I’d totally use them for setting my Thanksgiving table!!!

Periodic Table rings by Itsno

Precious metal rings. Wouldn’t a full set be fantastic? (You know what to get the Clear Science staff for holidays.)

Monday morning I was on Mount Desert Island, having spectated Jay’s marathon the day before. I left the hotel just past 6am to catch the sunrise on the summit of Cadillac Mountain. It took ~10 min to drive up the mountain and when I got there it was beautiful and cold and WINDY. There were a number of people already there waiting for the sun. Colors had already begun to grace the morning sky and after several minutes, I decided to descend Cadillac and make intermittent photo stops to record the sun’s progress. A crowd always takes away from the awe of anything magnificent!
One stop was so windy, I was literally blown over! Luckily I was alone so I was spared the embarrassment; although I swear I could hear God’s chuckle in the gust that took me…
I came to my favorite overlook just as the sun was exposing itself shamelessly over the ocean. The photo above does not do it justice, but I liked it anyway.
